BioHPC Downtime for Large-scale Upgrade (September 13 – 16, 2018)

BioHPC Downtime for Large-scale Upgrade (September 13 – 16, 2018)

The BioHPC will be undergoing a large-scale upgrade next month from September 13 - 16. The upgrade will entail:

· An operating system upgrade from Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.4

· The addition of 240 compute nodes (each with 32 CPU HT cores, 32 GB RAM)

· 34 new GPU nodes (72 CPU HT cores, 384 GB RAM) equipped with Nvidia P4, P40, and V100 cards

· A new 2.5 petabyte file system added to /project.

The downtime will take several days, so users are recommended to plan their lengthy jobs to finish before the upgrade. Any remaining jobs running will be terminated. All BioHPC services will be unavailable during this time, including the BioHPC Portal, Lamella, Cloud, and Git. There will be no data access on the BioHPC during this period, so please retrieve any essential files before the downtime.

The Nucleus cluster will be upgraded first on the 13 and 14th of September, followed by workstations and thin clients on the 15th and 16th. During this time, the workstations and thin clients will hang before rebooting several times. Users should not interact with their workstations or thin clients during the upgrade process.

After the upgrade is complete, operations and services should resume as normal. A notification e-mail will be sent when the upgrade is complete.
